Let's Talk Body Positivity

There are a lot of things wrong with 2016, but if there is one thing I’m really glad I’ve gotten the chance to witness is how body positive we’ve become. This year more than ever the influx of “plus sized” models, un-retouched ads and just straight-up support people have shown towards each other is simply inspiring.  Granted, there is a LOT of work still left to do, but seeing how different it is now than how it was six or seven years ago, brings me so much joy.

With that being said, I don’t like this concept people have that you can just feel better about yourself in the blink of an eye. You can’t just get rid of years of insecurities in a day and feel good about who you are; it takes time. Confidence takes time, as much as we would like to never really lose the love we have for who we are, we do and learning how to love yourself again takes time.

Give Yourself a Minute and Take a Deep Breath

What a better way to spend your days off than having a little time out and take a trip to the beach. If there’s an upside to living in an Island, it definitely is being able to go to the beach whenever you have a chance, whether it’s August or December, you just need to jump into your car and drive to your destination.

If You Like Piña Colada And Having Time To Relax

Ever since I started working full time the idea of any sort of vacation seemed so far away not even Marty McFly could tell me when I would have one. Although I didn’t really get a lengthy vacation, I took advantage over the fact that it was my sister’s college graduation and asked for three days off even if it meant fewer hours and a smaller paycheck.

The Disney College Program: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I don’t know about you, but growing up I had very high expectations in life thanks to Disney movies. Like many of my friends, Disney was a big part of my life as a child. I was one of those kids who would recite the entire movie from start to finish, which is why I didn’t hesitate on applying for the Disney College Program. For me the idea of working for the mouse and having the chance to explore the parks at any given moment seemed like promise land to me.

I’ve had the opportunity to do the DCP twice and both times I’ve had wonderful experiences and met so many amazing people; working both in a park (shoutout to all my DHS peeps), and working in a resort. Not that I’m an expert when it comes to the program, but I always have a lot of people ask me about how it works, if I liked it, if I think it’s worth it, and so on. Which is why I’ve decided to share a little bit about it in a post.

Michelle: Ballerina, Teacher, Marine Biologist, Chef, Publicist or Just a Lost 22 Year Old

Growing up you’re constantly being asked what you want to do when you grow up, even when you are five years old and you barely know what that means. As a child, you always pick whatever you find somewhat cool at that second, like being a ballerina or a mermaid. That continuous asking and pressure i…

If You Wanna Be My Lover You Gotta Eat Puerto Rican Food

If there’s one thing in the world I love more than sleeping it’s eating.  As the foodie that I am, I like finding new places to eat, new recipes to try, as well as telling people of the things I think they should try. Back in college my friends and I would have something we liked to call “Gordita T…

Bilinguals Hurt Too

Recently I was trying to remember when and how I decided I wanted to learn how to speak English. After thinking long and hard about it, I realized it was something that sparked my interest when I was in Kindergarten. I remember my English teacher using puppets to reel us in, and in my case, it worked.

Throughout my formative years, I somehow understood some words in the language and went with it. Although in Puerto Rico we take English as a mandatory class throughout our entire school life, that wasn’t what helped me, because to be honest with you my English teachers always sucked (except two angels sent from the heavens above, one in kindergarten and one in ninth grade). I didn’t really start teaching myself the language until I was about ten or eleven years old and I started watching Disney Channel. After that, I would listen to music in English (Jessie McCartney was my bae), and even read in the language, barely understanding but slowly making sense of the words depending on the context.

I remember not being confident enough to speak it with anyone, and to this day I overthink it when I’m talking with my friends whose first language is English.

Pick Me Up Before You...Pin It ?

Never in my life would I have thought I’d be making a Pinterest board with positive quotes. Hold on, let me rephrase that, I didn’t think I would be into using Pinterest at all; needless to say, I am obsessed.

About a month ago I rediscovered the wonders of said social media platform, creating boards about room redecorating ideas, braid inspirations, and even recipes I might never get around to making. On one of those off days one tends to have, I dove into the black hole that is Pinterest in hopes to find some pick me up. Three hours later and a new board titled “Sometimes You Just Need Kind Words” I felt a whole lot better.

People Change and Promises are Broken

There are a lot of things that suck about growing up, but one of the really painful ones is outgrowing friendships.

Contrary to what my resting bitch face might insinuate, I consider myself to be a friendly person. I have always been that person that reaches out and tries to make conversation with new people, which is why it’s really hard for me to let go of friendships.

Awkward Posing In Busy Streets

A little while ago while texting my friend Giovanna ,she suggested a little session to take some “proper” pictures for my blog. I was nervous and excited; nervous because I have never done something like this, but excited because it means making my blog look a little bit fancier.

This past Friday we went to Santurce, home to my alma mater, and stopped in two different murals to take some pictures. If you’ve ever been to the area you would know that Santurce is filled with beautiful art.

The One With: The Roadtrip

A couple of weeks ago I ventured on a rather small road trip with my sister and cousin that we had intended on doing before I left for Orlando but never got around to doing. During our Three Kings Day celebrations, my cousin brought the whole idea back up, and because it had to be done before she started school again we basically planned it out in a matter of two or three days. I say “we planned it” but in reality, all I did was agree to everything my cousin suggested on our Whatsapp group.

When it comes to going around the Island, those of us living on the East side usually tend to go for the same route, that one being the south. Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful places to see on the South, but after going to the same places over and over and over again you need to see new and fresher things.
